Gilmanton is a quaint and quiet community located in Belknap County, New Hampshire.  It is part of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and includes the village of Gilmanton Iron Works.  It is bordered by Alton, Barnstead, Belmont, Canterbury, Loudon and Pittsfield.  It is situated 34 miles from Manchester.

Gilmanton was incorporated in 1727 and was first known as Gilmantown.  It was home to the Gilman family, whose members received land grants in the new town of Gilmanton.  Today, the town is home to commuter, retirees and home-based business owners.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Gilmanton was home to 3,060 residents.  This included 1,165 households and 900 families.  The average family size was 2.96 and the average household size was 2.62.  Gilmanton is comprised of 57.1 square miles of land and 2.0 square miles of water.
